Position Summary:

St. Michael Preschool in Cary, NC is seeking an Assistant to the Preschool Director. The Assistant to the Preschool Director plays a vital role in the daily operations, teacher support, and curriculum development at the half-day St. Michael Preschool program. This individual works closely with the Director, teachers, and church staff to ensure a well-organized, faith-centered learning environment.

Key responsibilities:

  • Assist in the day-to-day administration of the preschool.
  • Mentor and support teachers in curriculum planning, classroom management, and professional development.
  • Observe classrooms, provide feedback, and ensure developmentally appropriate practices.
  • Support the integration of Catholic teachings and values into daily learning experiences.
  • Foster strong relationships with families, promote open communication and partnership.
  • Help coordinate school events, staff training, and enrichment activities.
  • Step into classrooms as needed to provide additional support.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Possess at least a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, child development, or elementary education or a bachelor’s degree and experience relevant to early childhood program administration
  • At least three years teaching experience with young children
  • Proficiency in Microsoft products
  • A willingness to adapt to other technical applications such as Brightwheel.
  • The Assistant to the Preschool Director must be a practicing Catholic in good standing
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Commitment to creating a play based developmentally appropriate educational experience
  • Ability to learn other online systems for payroll
  • Employment is contingent upon applicant satisfactorily passing criminal background and reference checks
  • Must complete diocese-sponsored Safe Environment Training prior to start date.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Teaching license
  • Serve as the program expert on social and emotional learning by teaching and supporting staff to use Second Step effectively with children
  • Previous knowledge and relationship with Project Enlightenment of Wake County

Supervises: Staff, substitutes, volunteers, groups of young children
